Arowhenua Marae Visit

On Wednesday Room 1 went to the Arowhenua Marae. We said our mini and we had a hangi, it was yummy. We had pumpkin, potatoes, stuffing, chicken, corn and carrots.

We painted koru patterns onto the stones. They were round flat stones from the Rangitata River.

On Wednesday we went to the Arowhenua Marae which is near Temuka. When we got there we were welcomed onto the marae. A man sang a song and then we sang a song. Then we had morning tea and played a game.

On Wednesday I did rock art. I made a blue rock art it had a koru in the middle. We also got to use a roller that had paint on it. It was called wood art. You put paint on a curved piece of wood and then you stamp it on paper.

On Wednesday 29th April we went to the marae. We did the taiha which is moves with sticks. We did self-defence moves and attack moves. It was my favourite activity.

When we went to the marae we had a hangi. In the hangi was chicken, potato, carrot, corn and stuffing. We saw the steam coming out of the dirt and then we saw the men take it out. it was yum.

On the 29th of April Rooms 1 and 10 went to the marae. One of the groups got to make the hangi for the day's group.The hangi includes corn, carrots, chicken, potatoes, pumpkin and stuffing. For dessert we had jelly and ice-cream.

We are practising our scenes for our ANZA Day drama. We learnt how to do freeze frames, storybook pop-up and tableaux. Esme's mum came and taught us what to do, she is a drama teacher. Thanks Mrs H.

Visit by Gurkhas Tuesday 21st April

This morning Gurkhas came to our hall and talk about Gallipoli and their knife dance it was cool. They just about hit Jayden. They're from Nepal.  There was also a New Zealand solider. They are in New Zealand as part of the Gallipoli centenary celebrations.
